Three Local Businesses Team Up for Charity

Charity GrindManassas, Virginia- Local small business owners have decided to team up for charity.  A-1 Cycling, Applied Fitness Cycle and BadWolf Brewing Company host monthly events benefiting local nonprofits. Their most recent event benefited Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, a local 501(c)(3) that rescues dogs from the shelter and trains them to be service dogs for wounded veterans.

Sean Christian with A-1 Cycling wanted to create a way give back but felt overwhelmed as to where to even begin. “We saw a relationship with BadWolf as an opportunity to get better involved with our community and to allow small business to work together. A-1 felt that having a strong relationship with BadWolf would provide something unique to offer to both of our customer’s and potential for growth moving forward.”

“I walked into A-1 Cycle long before we even had a location for my business Applied Fitness Cycle in hopes of potentially striking up a strategic partnership or at a minimum let them know what we were all about.” said Chris Dickinson, owner of Applied Fitness Cycle.  “Most of that first conversation was geared around ways we could work together using cycling and indoor cycling in giving back; charity rides, teaching kids to ride bikes on trainers at the studio then bringing them outdoors amongst many other ideas.”

Each month, Sean and Chris haul equipment to BadWolf Brewing at their location on Kao Circle in Manassas. “It takes us several hours to get things set up and broken down but we do this because we love helping bring awareness to groups who are making a difference here in the community and we feel like that is what we are doing as well.” Said Dickinson.

“Our goal is to not only raise money for a different local charity with each Charity Grind at BadWolf Brewing, but also to raise awareness.  To continue to find ways that we can work together and give back using our business platforms, even its only for a single ride every little bit helps.” Dickinson explained.

This unique fundraising event is similar to a spin class, however there is no instructor. Video is played and participants follow along with the screen. This allows participants to encourage and compete with one another. Participating is also ideal for people who do not have their own equipment or are interested in spending some saddle time on a different, potentially more expensive bicycle.

“We have a trainer night at A-1 Cycling on Monday night’s, and someone had the idea to actually host it at BadWolf as a larger event to raise money for charity. So we took the ball and ran with it. We feel that this is a great event to support a great cause. We all take pride in what we have been able to accomplish and the feeling that we get from giving back.” Explained Christian.

Sarah Meyers, who owns BadWolf Brewing Company with her husband Jeremy explains why this is a great option for their business. “As owners of BadWolf and locals who have lived in Manassas since we were kids, local business is what grows our economy in a positive way. A partnership with two other local businesses just around the corner, especially those focused on exercise and giving back, is a win-win for everyone.”

The next Charity Grind is scheduled for March 26th at 3pm. Semper K9 will once again be the beneficiaries of this event and will have some of their service dogs in training onsite.
