Bristow Run Elementary School Inaugural Panther Pride 5k Race

panther pride 5kThe inaugural Panther Pride 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 and is an exciting opportunity for you to get involved in helping promote literacy development.

8-year-old Samantha Hodges is excited for this event. “I am really looking forward to running with my school friends and my sister through my own neighborhood!”

Bristow Run Elementary School was chosen to be one of three schools in Virginia to be a part of the Global Schools Network. The goal of the program is to utilize 21st Century learning skills to bring a global perspective to our students. The school’s goal is to provide increased rigor and incorporate learning opportunities that challenge the students’ thinking. Proceeds from this event will go to help the teachers supply students with meaningful information and opportunities through literacy materials.

The newly named Global Garden at Bristow Run is currently under renovation. In conjunction with Vulcan Quarry, Virginia Cooperative Extension of Virginia Tech, and the volunteers of the Garden Committee of Bristow Run ES, the revitalization is shaping up to be a large project. Because of the opportunity for connection to the school-wide global theme, this year’s funds will support the beautification of the unique Global Garden.

This is a family-friendly event. While there will be a competitive racing crowd, there will also be a high level of participation from the surrounding communities. Walkers are encouraged to come and support Bristow Run Elementary School and its efforts to go global!
