Planning Office to Hold Meeting on Rural Preservation

Prince William County, VA….As part of the County’s rural preservation study, the Planning Office will host a public meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1st in the Nokesville Elementary School gymnasium located at, 12625 Fitzwater Dr. in Nokesville.

The public input session is part of a study that began on June 4, 2013, when the Prince William County Planning Office presented information to the Board of County Supervisors regarding the County’s Rural Preservation Study. During the June 4 project kick-off, staff introduced the consultant team and noted that there would be several opportunities for public input. County staff explained that the purpose of the study is to provide an overview of the County’s rural preservation policies and an evaluation of their effectiveness, identify additional rural preservation tools that may be appropriate and effective, and make recommendations regarding possible amendments to the County’s rural land use planning policies.

Raymond Utz, the County’s Chief of Long-range Planning, said the meeting will provide residents with an overview of existing conditions within the rural areas of the County, will provide residents with an update on the status of the study, and most importantly, give residents a platform to voice their opinions regarding existing rural land use policies.

Additional public input opportunities will be available during the course of the project. Project information can be found on the Planning Office website at www.pwcgov.org/planning under the heading Rural Preservation Study. For more information, please contact the Planning Office at 703-792-6830.
