Lake Ridge, VA, July 29—Eric Montague, athletic trainer for the Potomac Nationals minor league baseball team in Woodbridge, calls Westminster at Lake Ridge the “Nicest place I’ve ever stayed in.” That’s a high compliment from someone entering his 16th season as a trainer for minor league baseball teams from Houston to New York.

“It’s been really great living here,” says Montague, in his first year with the team, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. “Last Sunday I had brunch with three or four couples. They put on a good spread and everyone here is so nice.”

Montague, 40, has been living in a model cottage at the retirement community since April when he moved from his permanent home in Batesville, MS. As a trainer, he treats player injuries and oversee rehabilitation, but he also helps with hotel and other travel arrangements. His typical work day is from 10:00am to 11:00pm, seven days a week.

“When they first heard I was living here, some of the guys on the team kind of chuckled,” he says. “But then they saw how nice the place is.”

The idea of living at a retirement community was suggested by Josh Olerud, Potomac’s General Manager. Olerud had been contacted by Steve Gurney who arranged for two professional soccer players from the Washington Spirit to live at Ingleside at King Farm, a retirement community in Rockville, MD. Gurney, publisher of “Guide to Retirement Living,” is an advocate for intergenerational living.

“The people here come to our games and cheer us on,” says Montague, who not only treats player injuries, but handles hotel and other travel arrangements. “I’d love to stay here again next season.”

Westminster at Lake Ridge is a Continuing Care Retirement Community located near the historic riverside town of Occoquan, Virginia, just across the Occoquan River from Fairfax County, and approximately 30 minutes from Washington, D.C. Residents enjoy opportunities promoting wellness, lifelong learning, the choice of a maintenance-free cottage or apartment, housekeeping, dining, parking, transportation, and other on-site amenities–all in a beautiful, wooded campus environment featuring two ponds, gardens, and wooded trails.
