Building W-5 Featured Artist: Allen Levy
October 9 – November 3
Allen Levy creates passionate, color-filled abstractions that reflect his enthusiasm for limitless possibilities of the Endless Horizon. By developing multiple layers of acrylic paint in a horizontal pattern, the result is work that has uncommon depth and luminosity. Each piece is developed initially through extensive knife work and under-painting. In juxtaposition to the open movement and freedom of his pieces, he also incorporates structural borders. These architectural references create tension and give Levy’s work a context and a sense of grounding.

Building W-6 Featured Artist: Gretchen Klimoski
In the late 1990s I “discovered” the Japanese art of sashiko. I am intrigued by the endless design variations it permits. I am soothed by the rhythmic motion of moving the needle in and out of the fabric and am delighted by the patterns that emerge. While sashiko was historically used to strengthen fabric or layer fabrics together for warmth and protection, I care only about the design the thread creates on the surface of the fabric. For many years I have focused on using sashiko patterns to enhance garments. In this exhibit I apply the technique to wall hangings. Each of these focuses on one historic pattern or design.
