Fairfax, VA…October 9, 2013…An open casting call for The Great American Home Movie will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Best Western Fairfax, 3535 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and conducted locally by Ken Sander, owner of Home Video Studio.
The casting call is looking for people who lived in the United States between 1946 and 1976, who are at least 40 years of age, and who are willing to tell their personal stories of a time when American life was documented in a unique and intimate way: through home movies. For more information, contact Ken Sander at 703-3233-6110 or [email protected].
“We are excited to be chosen to help cast this important documentary in our region,” says Sander. “People don’t need to bring anything but their stories. What we’re looking for are people who feel comfortable telling their own stories of the years when home movies were the rage.”
The Great American Home Movie
The Great American Home Movie, produced and directed by Robert Hanley, is a feature-length documentary film. Distilled from thousands of hours and millions of feet of 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm film, it explores American life from the perspective of people’s home movies taken in the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s. The film also features a custom music score by three-time Grammy and five-time Emmy-nominated composer Steve Dorff.
Casting Call Needs American Stories
A vital component of The Great American Home Movie will be interviews of select Americans who lived in this time. The time between 1946 and 1976 was an era of sweeping change, yet unparalleled stability, for average Americans.  It was a revolution in jobs, careers, businesses, automobiles, birthing babies and raising families, childhood, toys, family gatherings, cookouts, picnics, holidays, vacations, spots, sporting events, weddings and funerals—of life and living. The producers want to know your part during this Golden Age of Home Movies.
The casting call encourages interviewees to tell their experiences of not only their personal lives, but those of The Cold War, The Korean Conflict, the birth of Television and Rock ‘n Roll, Camelot, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Civil Rights Movement, the British Invasion, Vietnam, the Summer of Love, Woodstock, the Moon Landing, Watergate, computers and the birth of Apple and Microsoft, and more.
Those interviewees chosen from the casting call will be featured in The Great American Home Movie documentary film. Filming will begin in 2014, with a movie release in 2015. There is no compensation for the interviewees.
