‘DARE’ Author & Fortune 500 Exec Becky Blalock to Keynote Prince William Chamber Women’s Conference, Nov. 19

chamber of commerce logoPrince William, VA – The Prince William Chamber of Commerce announced that Becky Blalock, author of “DARE” and managing partner at Advisory Capital will keynote its third annual Women’s Leadership Conference on Nov. 19, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm at Harbour View Events at 13200 Marina Way, Woodbridge, VA. Doors open at 9:00 am.

Blalock also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Southern Company, the world’s 6th largest utility company. Under her leadership, Southern Company was recognized as one of the 100 Most Innovative Companies by CIO magazine and one of the 100 Best Places to Work in IT by Computerworld magazine.

For “DARE,” she drew on her own experience as a Fortune 500 executive in a male-dominated industry, as well as that of 28 other highly-successful women who shared their stories. According to the publisher, the book, “empowers women to succeed with practical strategies that build relationships, promote potential, and ultimately create the opportunities on which great careers are founded, nurtured, and grown.”

“Confidence is a learnable skill, just like public speaking and leadership. ‘DARE’ to stretch outside your comfort zone to grow your confidence and obtain your dreams,” said Blalock.

Atlanta Woman magazine recognized Blalock as Power Woman of the Year, and she received the Shining Star Award from the Atlanta Women’s Foundation. The Girl Scouts and the YWCA have also recognized Blalock for her efforts on behalf of women.

“Being successful begins with knowing what it is that you want, being courageous enough to go after it, and remembering to give back,” said Blalock of her community involvement.

“Becky is a sought-after speaker and an inspiration, in terms of her professional success and the ways that she supports the success of other women. We are excited to bring her to Prince William to speak at the Women’s Leadership Conference,” said Chamber Chief Operating Officer Debbie Jones.

Jones added that the day-long conference will offer a number of informative workshops and opportunities for attendees to network and learn from each other. Workshop topics will include “Mastering the Art of Self Promotion,” “Top 10 Traits of Successful Women” and “Creating Wealth.” The full 2013 Women’s Leadership Conference agenda, along with registration information, can be found online in the events section of pwchamber.org.
