Prince William Little Theatre is holding auditions for “Blithe Spirit”, a comedic play by Noel Coward

Prince William Little TheatreSYNOPSIS
The play focuses around Charles who plans a séance as research for his new book. He invites the eccentric medium Madam Arcarti into his English country home intending to expose the Madam as a fraud. To witness this event, Charles and his second wife, Ruth, invite their neighbors Dr. Bradman and his wife Violet. When, in the course of the séance, Madam Arcarti mistakenly summons Charles’ first wife, Elvira, back from the beyond, things become thoroughly out of hand.  Comedy materializes as the beleaguered Charles is caught between two wives in two worlds and must decide if life is indeed grayer on the other side.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.
Seeking diversity in casting in ALL ROLES.  Logically, characters should come from countries and cultures that were allies of England in 1941 at the start of WWII.  Although Charles Condomine most likely was raised in England and went to the best schools there he too could be diverse in background.

British accents preferred but poise more important.

The production will keep the period quality of the play, setting action in Folkestone, England, eastern coastal area in 1941.

Note on Character Ages- Age ranges are only guidelines.  There is justification for characters to be on the low or high side of the suggested age range.

Seeking 5 women and 2 men -age ranges 20’s to 60’s.

Ruth Condomine – Female Lead Age 30’s – 50’s.  Charles Condomine’s proper and boring second wife. Controlling, conservative, and cold. She is jealous of Charles’ dead first wife Elvira.

Charles Condomine – Male Lead Age 30’s- 50’s

A pragmatic, somewhat stagnating author until a séance in his home materializes the apparition of his dead first wife Elvira whom only he can see.

Elvira – Female Lead Age 20’s – 40. Charles’ dead first fickle and feckless wife. She appears as a ghost that only Charles can see. She is passionate, sexy, cunning and a bit of a brat.

Madame Arcati – Female Supporting Age “eternal”  old, young whatever strikes as right. A flamboyant good-natured psychic medium with an answer for everything. She is independent, confidant and a real showman. She could be from a totally different place than England,

Dr. George Bradman – Male Supporting Age  – Any logical age for a doctor.  He could be from any country that is an ally of England in 1941.

Doctor and friend of the Condomines. Skeptical and businesslike. He is currently interested in psychology as a viable medical discipline.  George is either a typical old style  Folkestone country village doctor or  perhaps a recently graduated doctor assigned to a country practice who is up on new things such as parapsychology.

Mrs. Violet Bradman – Female Supporting Age  – Any age suitable to be the spouse of George Bradman. Violet is a wee bit ditzy and bored with country life – anything new is exciting to her, although she supports her husband and keeps his appointments etc.  She wants to believe in the other side,

Edith – Female Supporting Age – Edith could be as young a 18 or as old as 35.  This is her first job at the “big country”house and she is freaking out- trying to do all tasks in less than 2 minutes flat. She needs the job.  Not the brightest book on the shelf but kind enough.  She is the Condomine’s maid. Always on the run to the distraction of her employers. she is totally country/naive and jumpy/fearful.
