Yellow Cab is pleased to be the first licensed cab company in Prince William County to offer Wheelchair Accessible Transportation.  The four (4) wheelchair accessible vehicles were put into service in March of 2013 and feature rear entry ramps and a safety restraint system, including “in the floor” tie down system and a unique seat belt system designed to keep passengers safe.  All drivers of accessible vehicles have been specially trained. The new vehicles are ADA compliant, crash tested, and are a wonderful addition to the Yellow Cab fleet of nearly 100 vehicles.  They are available for on demand transportation, but Yellow Cab recommends pre-arranging transportation in advance.  Due to a growing demand, we have already placed an order to add 2 additional vehicles to the accessible fleet and they should be in service before the end of October.

In addition to being able to transport those passengers who are disabled, the vans also comfortably seat four additional passengers.  They are capable of being an accessible vehicle and a standard taxicab at the same time.  “When we studied the different types of accessible vehicles, we wanted to make sure that we were providing the services needed, but didn’t want to hurt our drivers if the demand for accessible transportation wasn’t there,” said Joanna Dugan General Manager of Yellow Cab.  “Having the capability to do both provides new options for the disabled citizens of Prince William County, but also keeps our drivers working with our other customers if the demand is low.”

The rates are the same low taxicab rates, approved and regulated by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, and will offer a significant savings to those who are currently using other forms of accessible transportation.

“Our participation in the Transportation Options Group, which developed a Mobility Management Plan for the county, brought to light that Wheelchair Accessible transportation was a service that was costly and underserved in the County.  We serve passengers with disabilities every day but it was important to us to offer the best in transportation services to all of our customers.  We are happy to extend the range of services we offer in order to bring affordable transportation to all citizens.” said Tammy Beard, Owner of Yellow Cab.

Yellow Cab is a family owned and operated company that has been providing taxicab service to Prince William County since 1978.  Reservations can be made by phone (703-491-2222 OR 703-369-2100) internet reservation (WWW.YellowCabPW.com)  or through our smart phone booking app.
