Contributed by ACTS

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA—Action in Community Through Service of PWC has received a $20,000 grant from the Stafford Hospital Community Benefit Fund located in Fredericksburg, Va.  The grant period is Jan. 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2014.

This grant supports ACTS Helpline, which provides services directed toward crisis and suicide prevention.  Helpline is a 24/7/365 telephone crisis hotline, which is certified for suicide intervention by the American Association of Suicidology. ACTS Helpline also provides Senior Link, a free call reassurance program providing scheduled phone calls to senior citizens or physically disadvantaged shut-ins.

As part of this grant, ACTS is required to:

  1. Establish a Stafford County Survivor Support Team of trained individuals to provide immediate and ongoing support to family and friends impacted by sudden and traumatic loss.  Helpline already provides such a team in the Greater Prince William County area.
  2. Provide approximately 1,000 reassurance calls to senior adults and physically disadvantaged shut-ins, as part of our Senior Link program.
  3. Establish a Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team (LOSS) for individuals in Stafford County.  Helpline already provides such a team in the Greater Prince William County area.
