Sentara Neurology Specialists, part of Sentara Medical Group, brings together Dr. Maher Loutfi and Dr. Tha “Thomas” U, two highly experienced physicians that diagnose and treat disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system. Their convenient location combines high-tech with high-touch to make medically advanced technology and quality neurological care even more accessible to the Woodbridge community.

Maher Loutfi, MD

Dr. Loutfi earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus in Damascus, Syria in 2000. He completed his residency in Neurology at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, AL in 2010 before completing his fellowship in Clinical Neurology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN in 2011.

Dr. Loutfi is a highly skilled physician who specializes in diagnosing and treating a range of neurological conditions such as headaches, concussions, movement disorders, sleep disorders, dementia, stroke, and brain tumors. He also studied clinical neurophysiology, conducting various research studies on epilepsy. Dr. Loutfi is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society.

Dr. U received his medical degree from the University of Medicine in Yangon, Myanmar in 1987. He completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR in 1995 before completing his mini-fellowship in Stroke and Headache at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile, AL in 1996.

Dr. U is highly trained in a variety of neurology services, including the treatment of stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s Disease. He believes in an integrated, coordinated, and responsive approach to patient care and works with patients to develop individualized treatment plans. Dr. U is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Virginia State Medical Society.
