Woodbridge- PwcMoms.com, the go-to resource for families in Prince William County announced the organization’s innagural “Silver Sparkles” event- a family fun day to raise money for Brain Tumor and Brain Cancer research.

Last year, PwcMoms owner Kristina Schnack Kotlus was diagnosed with an Ependymoma, a less-common type of tumor, which was wrapped around her brain stem.  After a year that included a 16-hour marathon surgery, seven weeks of brain radiation, physical therapy, and much time recovering, Kotlus was eager to celebrate her one-year survival by giving back.

“With February being my one-year survival anniversary, my 30th birthday we weren’t sure I’d get to celebrate, and the fourth anniversary of my blog, I wanted to do something fun for my readers, and something that would benefit more than just me or my website,” said Kotlus.

The title of the event came from Kotlus’ unique approach to dealing with her diagnosis and finding the silver lining.  Brain Cancer ribbons are grey, but Kotlus found that everything, including her illness, was better with a little glitter.

The Silver Sparkles Family Fun Day will be held on February 22nd, 2014 from 2-6pm at the Freedom Aquatic Center in Manassas.  Sponsored in part by Bristow Montessori School, Prince William Academy, and Prince William County Parks and Recreation, the event will include informational displays, face painting, glitter tattoos, inflatables, a balloon artist, games, prizes, and performers including a magician courtesy of NovaOutdoors.com, music and movement class, and Princess Storytime with the Kingdom of Azuria and Confections Cupcakes.  Tickets are $15 per family until February 1st when the price will increase to $25, and cover everything except food items, which will be available from Confections, Chick Fil A and Sweet Creations Yogurt.  All proceeds will go to the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.
