Visual Artists from Across Virginia Are Invited to Submit Work to the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Inaugural Juried Exhibition

The Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas is pleased to announce its Inaugural Juried Exhibition to celebrate the region’s vibrant visual arts community. Artists from across the Commonwealth of Virginia are invited to submit original works of art to the Hylton Center between Feb. 1, 2014 and April 1, 2014. A distinguished panel of judges will jury submissions and choose the top entries to be exhibited in the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery from May 25, 2014 to July 18, 2014. Along with the honor of being chosen to exhibit, the awards will be announced at a reception on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. Award recipients will receive a certificate and a cash prize, and the winner of “Best in Show” will have the opportunity to exhibit his or her work in a solo exhibition at the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery during the 2014-2015 season. Cash Prizes:
    • Best of Show ($500)
    • Best Runner-Up ($250)
    • Honorable Mention ($125; 3 awards)

Timeline:

    • Submissions Due: Feb. 1 – April 1, 2014
    • Selected Exhibiting Artists and Award Winners Notified: April 27, 2014
    • Exhibition: May 25 – July 18, 2014
    • Reception: Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Categories and Descriptions of Accepted Art:

    • Ceramics – clay earthenware, porcelain, terracotta or stoneware
    • Drawing – dry media
    • Fiber – batik, book making, papermaking, quilting, weaving, etc.(excludes clothing)
    • Glass – Does not include jewelry
    • Jewelry and Wearable Art
    • Furniture
    • Mixed Media (2D or 3D)
    • Painting – must be original work
    • Printmaking – must be original and hand-pulled by submitting artist
    • Photography – must be original work
    • Sculpture – can be made of found objects. Medium includes wood, marble, stone, etc.
