Occoquan, VA – The Town of Occoquan announced today that after an extensive search process, the Town has appointed Ms. Kirstyn L. Barr as Town Manager.  Ms. Barr is currently the Public Information Officer for the Town of Vienna, Virginia, and has previously served as the Community Relations and Communications Specialist for the City of Newport News, Virginia.  She is a graduate of both Christopher Newport University and the Senior Executive Institute of the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia.  Additionally, she holds a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from Old Dominion University.  The town was assisted in its search by former Prince William County Executive, Craig Gerhart.

“We had a strong pool of candidates apply for the Town Manager position,” said Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta, “and after careful consideration, Ms. Barr was the unanimous and enthusiastic choice of the entire Town Council.  She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and professionalism to the position, and will be a major asset to the town.  All of us are very much looking forward to working with her.”

Ms. Barr is scheduled to assume her new role the week of April 14.  In the meantime, she will be participating in a variety of meetings and events in town.

“I know I speak for the entire Town Council in both welcoming Ms. Barr to Occoquan, as well as thanking Chief of Police Sheldon Levi and all the town staff,” said Mayor Porta, “for their efforts during the current fiscal year to-date.  Chief Levi has done an outstanding job as Acting Town Manager while we went through the search process, and the town staff could not have done a better job of working collaboratively during the same period.  There is no doubt in my mind that they are going to enjoy working with Ms. Barr.  Additionally, I want to take a moment to thank our search consultant, Craig Gerhart, who helped us through a comprehensive and valuable search process.”
