In recognition of Veterans Day, the faculty and staff of Northern Virginia Community College were honored for their military service at a pancake breakfast hosted by NOVA President Dr. Scott Ralls and members of the college’s Administrative Council. The event was held Friday, Nov. 11 at the Regional Center for Workforce Education and Training at NOVA’s Woodbridge Campus.

Participants enjoyed a full pancake breakfast served by Ralls and other senior leadership. Freedom High School JROTC Honor Guard in Woodbridge presented the national colors for the event as veterans spoke of their experiences in the United States Armed Forces in relation to serving NOVA students. With over 300 of NOVA’s faculty and staff having served in the military, Ralls commended NOVA’s veteran faculty and staff for their commitment to our country.

“Those who have served in our military have a special appreciation for what this country means for all Americans,” said Ralls. “Today we honor your service both to NOVA and to the United States. Although this event is a very simple gesture, we here at NOVA thank you for your service to our students as well as the College. We are very fortunate that your service has made so many opportunities possible for all citizens.”

NOVA has a total of 5,400 veteran students and 2,200 active duty military. In addition, 650 veterans graduated from NOVA programs last spring. NOVA’s Office of Military and Veterans Services (OMVS) is a centralized office designed to provide comprehensive resources to veterans and military related personnel who are utilizing VA and tuition assistant educational benefits.
