The House of Mercy’s seventh annual “Campaign to End Hunger” meal-packing event to feed the poor and malnourished will occur on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.  Beneficiaries of the food this year will be House of Mercy Food Pantry, Food for Others, and the Banica Mission in the Dominican Republic.

“This event will celebrate adults, kids, and groups who are coming together to support House of Mercy and to make a significant contribution of food available to the poor and hungry,” said Ann Cimini, Executive Director of House of Mercy.

This year’s fund raising event will be from 8:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. in the House of Mercy business complex. The campaign goal is for volunteers to pack at least 85,000 meals, Cimini said. “We actually exceeded our food goal last year. We’re so blessed to provide this help to our community and beyond.”

The Campaign to End Hunger is the major fundraising activity each year for the House of Mercy. The fee to participate in each two-hour work shift is just $20. There are four shifts available; 8:00 a. m., 10:00 a. m., 12:00 noon, and 2:00 p. m. The fee covers the cost of food ingredients for the meals, supplies and shipping, as well as contributing to House of Mercy support and education programs, Cimini said. “Eighty five cents of each dollar House of Mercy receives goes back into our programs to support and serve the poor,” she continued. Cimini suggested registering quickly. “Only 216 packing positions are available. Usually the 10:00 and noon shifts fill quickly,” she said.
