International Day of Prayer for Peace

Provided by Congregation Ner Shalom

Congregation Ner Shalom in Woodbridge will be hosting local organizations and houses of worship from all faith traditions, denominations and nationalities for the Unity in the Community International Day of Prayer for Peace.

The International Day of Prayer for Peace offers an opportunity for religious communities in all places to pray and act together to nurture lasting peace in the hearts of people, their families, communities and societies.

The idea was proposed in 2004 during a meeting between WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and coincides with the UN International Day of Peace. The Day of Prayer is one of the initiatives of the WCC’s Decade to Overcome Violence.  This year’s theme will be “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

Come join your friends and neighbors in promoting peace and unity throughout our community on September 24th from 3:00 – 5:00 p. m. with a potluck to follow from 5:00 – 6:00 p. m. Unity in the Community welcomes all to this family friendly event as we break bread together as a community in the spirit of peace. Please bring a meatless dish to share at the fellowship supper following the service.  All attendees are encouraged to remember those in need by bringing a donation of canned/dry goods that will be contributed to ACTS and SERVE.

Congregation Ner Shalom’s address is 14010 Spriggs Road, Woodbridge.
