When thinking of marble, most people’s first image is of Carrara and the natural luster that makes it one of the most (if not the most) popular marble used in homes today. Stone Forest®has been working with Carrara for years, yielding a number of award-winning designs. Not satisfied with maintaining their own status quo, Stone Forest went looking for additional colors beyond Carrara’s classic white and found a rich mid-dark taupe marble with fine black and almost purple veining. Quarried in Spain, they call it Marquina Taupe.
Marquina Taupe marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to the heat and pressure of metamorphism. It is composed primarily of the mineral calcite (CaCO3) and usually contains other minerals, such as clay minerals, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron oxides and graphite.
The designers at Stone Forest were so impressed with this marble that they used it to reinterpret three of their most popular bath products: their Renaissance and Vintage Consoles, Vintage Washbasin and Calma tub.
Renaissance and Vintage Consoles
The Renaissance and Vintage Console tops in Marquina Taupe marble feature a uniquely shaped washbasin with dark gray marble and hints of brown and purple, bisected by bold white veins. The vintage style console is shown with a two-legged stand in a polished nickel finish.
Composed of calcite, marble has a hardness of three on the Mohs hardness scale. As a result, marble is easy to carve, which makes it useful for producing sculptures and ornamental objects as well as Stone Forest’s Calma bathtub. Carved from a single block of Marquina Taupe, Stone Forest’s Calma bathtub provides a gentle oval-shaped elegant respite. The soft lines of this freestanding tub combine a simple yet sophisticated design. The sculptural quality of the beautiful stone makes it an exquisite piece of art that becomes the focus piece of any bath.
Traditionally fabricated with a porcelain basin and stone countertop, this classic vanity sink is carved from a single block of Marquina Taupe marble. Combine the subtle detailing of the washbasin with traditional console legs in polished nickel and bring a fresh “old world” feel to the bath. Combining classic and contemporary elements, the washbasin design is set atop console legs that are available in different styles and finishes.
