Wittman Stands with Puerto Rico

Provided by Congressman Rob Wittman’s Office

Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement regarding current disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico:

“My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. I have heard from constituents all across the First District who have family and friends on the island; I’ve assured them that we will not stop working to make sure the victims receive the resources they need. I, and the people of Virginia, stand with our fellow American citizens in Puerto Rico during this time. There remains great need through many areas of the island, and we must address these with the strongest urgency and the most vigorous efforts possible.”

Right now, there are more than 11,000 federal staff representing 36 departments and agencies on the ground in the regions. Federal efforts currently underway include sending the U.S. military hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, to treat victims, utilizing the USS Kearsarge and the USS Oak Hill to distribute food and water in addition to conducting search and rescue missions, restoring power, and delivering fuel. FEMA has been working with federal partners to distribute food, water, and shelter materials. Additional information regarding disaster relief efforts can be found on FEMA’s website.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
