Time Management: More Than a Skill, It’s a Quality of Life Issue

By Errand Works

You aren’t alone if you constantly feel pulled in a thousand different directions. Or if you can hardly recall what you ate for breakfast or the last time you had more than a second for yourself, consider yourself normal. No matter how common, however, this situation is frustrating. It may feel as if most of the items on your to-do list genuinely can’t be eliminated. However, you can’t keep going at your current rate. So, what do you do?

It’s Time to Reprioritize

Life is meant to be lived, but most of us are just scrambling from one meeting, event or task to the next. Even if you love your job and are genuinely interested in most of your commitments, there comes a tipping point when your schedule becomes so full that it’s almost impossible to focus and be present. This means it’s time to take a look at your personal schedule, professional schedule and family calendar and start scaling things back a bit. This may sound impossible at first, because what you commit to is important to you. The easiest way is to trim the things you like least, or don’t even like at all. You’d be surprised how many things you can actually say “no” to without any real negative repercussions.

Minimize the Non-essentials

Some of the items on your list simply can’t be eliminated, but are items that can be delegated. Now is the time to ask for help. Delegate tasks such as household chores to your kids, spouse and family, especially if they enjoy helping. For example, grandma and grandpa may genuinely enjoy driving your daughter to her piano lessons. Or your spouse may honestly be so used to you doing it all on your own, that he or she doesn’t even think to ask. You will be amazed at how much more relaxed you feel with just a few free hours each week.

Add a Few New Things to Your Schedule

Does this sound counterintuitive? It isn’t. While your initial priority is to make some breathing room in your schedule, you should also aim to make enough extra time so you can add a few things that positively impact your quality of life. What that might be will vary from one person to the next. It could be spending time with your friends and family, having the time you desire to read and do hobbies or scheduling some pampering and self-care. Don’t forget the big life goals too, such as taking some time off traveling and crossing items off your Bucket List.

Explore Your Time-Saving Options Today

If trimming back your schedule and finding the quality time you long for sounds easier said than done, then you simply may not be aware of all of your time-saving resources. Look into getting a personal assistant. It might be more affordable than you think. Just be sure to find one that offers reliable, experienced assistants who have been background checked and have all the credentials necessary to help you get back that time you’ve been losing. Then step back, take a breather and watch your quality of life improve!
