In December, the Freedom Museum will honor the memory of the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.  On Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at 7:30 p. m., Dr. Laurence M. Burke, curator of the U.S. Naval Aviation collection at the National Air and Space Museum, will speak about the Pearl Harbor and Naval Aviation. His studies and his position at the Air and Space Museum have given Dr. Burke extensive knowledge about Naval Aviation and the Pearl Harbor attack.

As a curator at the Air and Space Museum, he oversees the U.S. Naval Aviation collection of over 30 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft.  This covers all eras of naval aviation from a pre-WWI Curtiss N-9 trainer to the prototype for the Marine Corps’ Lockheed Martin X-35B.

Prior to coming to the Museum, Dr. Burke was at the United States Naval Academy.  There he taught the freshman U.S. Navy history survey course and an upper-level course in military innovation.

Dr. Burke earned a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MA in Museum Studies from The George Washington University.  He also earned a PhD in History and Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and, at the same time, worked in the Naval Aviation History section at the National Air and Space Museum.

The Freedom Museum is located in the Terminal Building at the Manassas Regional Airport, 10600 Harry Parrish Blvd, Manassas.  The event is from 7:30 to 8:45 p. m.  Admission is free and light refreshments will be available.  For directions and further information, visit freedommuseum.org.
