This year, Occoquan is the place to be for Christmas. Make the third annual Winterfest a new tradition for your family. According to Julie Little, Events and Community Development Director for the Town of Occoquan, a series of events leading up to Winterfest kicks off on Friday, Nov. 17 with the holiday Tree Lighting event. The evening begins with Occoquan’s Holiday Open House, an evening of shopping, refreshments and specials. Then, make your way to Town Hall for the Tree Lighting at 8:05 p. m.
On Saturday, Dec. 2, Santa Arrives By Boat at 12:00 Noon at the Mamie Davis Park Dock. He will then proceed to Town Hall to visit with all the kids. Bring your camera!
Saturday, Dec. 9 is the big event, Occoquan River Communities’ Winterfest. Various fun, family-friendly activities will take place from 4:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. in Occoquan. There will be a fire pit for marshmallow roasting, and strolling holiday carolers. The Dunbar Saxophone Quartet will perform at Mamie Davis Park. Santa will be on hand to visit with the young and the young at heart. The Mill House Museum will host a children’s craft activity. The OWL Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting Touch-a-Truck. To top it all off, there will be hot chocolate while supplies last, and many stores and restaurants will be open late.
So mark your calendars now and make plans to celebrate Christmas in Occoquan. Visit OccoquanVA.gov for more information.
