Community Organizations Collaborate to Make Holidays Special for Students

Provided by Prince William County Schools (PWCS)

The holidays are a time of happiness, celebration, and family.  This is a significant part of the year, especially for our young students. Through the Fraternal Order of Police, Volunteer Prince William, SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Schools (PWCS), and multiple business partners, numerous Prince William County students in need are able to experience the joys of the holidays this year. Volunteers from these special organizations give their time and their hearts to serve over 4,000 Prince William County students during the holiday season.

Volunteer Prince William coordinated the Un-Trim-A-Tree gift program, identifying donors to help our students and providing gifts to thousands of our neighbors in the greater Prince William County area.

Uniformed officers volunteered their time to spend a morning with nearly 100 PWCS students through the Santa Cop Program, organized by the Fraternal Order of Police Battlefield Lodge #43. Students were greeted by an officer and taken to Walmart for a shopping spree, going through the toy aisles with their eyes lit up ready to place items in the cart. Volunteers, to include students from Osbourn Park High School and School Division employees, assisted in wrapping all of the gifts while students enjoyed a hot breakfast with officers hosted by the Ornery in Woodbridge and the Park West Lions Club in Manassas.

Holiday programs to help families in our community are essential.  The donors, sponsors, volunteers, and coordinators are the special people who make these programs a success each year.

Volunteer Prince William has announced that 500 children are still in need of assistance through Un-Trim-A-Tree. Contact Mary Foley at 703.369.5292 if you want to help ensure these children receive a gift for the holidays.
