Volunteer Opportunities in Greater Prince William

Provided by Volunteer Prince William

The Un-Trim-A-Tree Holiday Gift program is in full swing!  We currently have over 600 children waiting for Santa.  Share the joy of the season by sponsoring a child and making their wishes come true. You’ll be given the two wishes for toys or clothes valued up to $75 for a little boy or girl up to 12 years old.  These children live here in our community.  Come join the fun!  Please visit volunteerprincewilliam.org for more info and to download the donor form.

Un-Trim-A-Tree is also looking for donations of new, unwrapped toys to stock the Toy Shop so un-adopted kids can still have Christmas.  Donations of dolls, Legos, board games (age 8+), toy cars, Tonka trucks, toys for infants and Barbie’s are especially needed.  You can drop off your donation at toy collection boxes in various stores around the area – please visit potomaclocal.com/2017/11/17/where-you-can-drop-off-your-unwrapped-toy-for-un-trim-a-tree/ for a map and listing of drop-off sites.  Donations can also be brought to Volunteer Prince William any weekday between 9:00 a. m. and 4:00 p. m.  Please turn in all donations by Dec. 15.  For more information, please call Shelley at (571) 292-5301.

The busy staff at the SERVE Family Shelter needs volunteer groups who can provide a hot, nutritious meal to their residents Dec. 26-Jan. 2.  Volunteers must be at least 16.  Meals can be prepared either in the shelter’s kitchen or fixed off-site and transported to SERVE.  It’s a great way to support families experiencing homelessness by providing the comfort and warmth of a home-cooked meal!  Please contact Navara at [email protected] or call (571) 748-2536 for more information.

Calling All Student Singers – The MLK Community Choir wants to hear from you!  Rehearsals begin Dec. 9, 1:00 p. m. at Jennie Dean Elementary School in Manassas.  Other rehearsal dates are Jan. 6 and 12.  Please email [email protected] to learn how you can participate.

Cleaning out your closets for the holidays?  The wonderful folks at MADD are accepting donations of clean, gently used sneakers (no holes, please) through December!  Shoes can be dropped off with Shelley at our Volunteer Prince William office.  Please contact Shelley at (703) 369-5292 ext. 0 for more information.

Project Mend-A-House is searching for weekend volunteers to help with their fix-up projects across the community.  Both skilled and unskilled are most welcome on weekends and also during the week.  Please call Jhenny at (703) 792-7663 to learn more.

Serve Our Willing Warriors has numerous volunteer opportunities including Ambassador, Event Support/Coordination, Guest Services, House Prep and Grounds Support/Maintenance.  These are great ways to say Thank You to our veterans for their sacrifices, and also help this wonderful organization spread the word on how they support our veterans.  Please email [email protected] or visit willingwarriors.org for more information on these opportunities.

If you are looking for other opportunities, please call Volunteer Prince William. Jan can help you with the Retired and Senior Volunteer (RSVP) opportunities at (703) 369-5292 ext. 1, Shelley can help with any individual or group projects and send you weekly updates if you’d like. Shelley is at (703) 369-5292 ext. 0, and Bonnie can help you with opportunities available in Disaster Preparedness at (703) 369-5292 ext. 3. Please visit our website, volunteerprincewilliam.org. Thanks so much for all you do in our community.
