On Friday, Oct. 3 at the 2018 Raise the Region Gala at the McLean Hilton, our community showed just how much we care. More than 650 of us came together at the Raise the Region Gala to mark the Community Foundation’s 40th anniversary. We also recognized the outstanding community leadership and home grown philanthropy of Ellen and Jim Dyke.  It was a pure celebration of home and place that nurtures the truly creative spirit of giving in our region.

Governor Ralph Northam, Virginia House Speaker Kirk Cox, Delegate Mark Keam, and many other elected officials and dignitaries joined us. In recognition of the Community Foundation’s 40 years of impact, the event also paid tribute to those who went before us and on whose shoulders we stand – former Community Foundation board and staff members, prior gala honorees, donors, and volunteers.

The event was a huge financial success that raised $636,000 to help further the Community Foundation’s mission of growing philanthropy to help respond to critical need and seed innovation in the region.

Volunteers

This fantastic outcome was made possible through the dedication and hard work of people like our Gala Co-Chairs Todd Stottlemyer, Bill Kilberg, and Bobbie Kilberg, our entire Gala Committee, the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors, all Community Foundation staff and event experts like Tara Nadel, Jenny Martin, Linda Odorisio, Matt Quinn, Kelly Blanks, Allison Cook, Megan Niewold, Sari Raskin, Jennifer Cochran, Cindy DiMarco, Jill Bach, and so many other kind and caring volunteers.

And of course, each and every one of you helped made this success possible. There is no Community Foundation without you. Thank you for caring, for participating in the spirit of our community, and for supporting our work.

Something very special is happening in Northern Virginia.  We love this place and want to see it continue to grow and thrive. We feel a deep personal desire to play a meaningful role in the continuous re-creation, re-imagination and reengagement of our community.  We are literally building the future of our region, together.
