In Their Own Words: Young Writers Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Provided by Prince William County Schools (PWCS)

Prince William County Public School students have been named as winners of the fourth and fifth-grade writing contest in the 2018 celebration of life and writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The contest was open to students from Manassas City, Manassas Park City, and Prince William County.

The contest, sponsored by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, challenged students to choose one of two quotations by Dr. King, and explain what the quote means to them and how it applies to their life, beliefs, and/or events they have observed, heard, or read about. Students choose from the following two remarks by Dr. King: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate Cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,” and “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Congratulations to the winners!
