In an effort to assist the underserved communities, more than 300 Northern Virginia Community College students, faculty, staff and surrounding community members will work together during the MLK National Day of Service. The event will take place from 10:00 a. m. to 1:30 p. m. Monday, Jan. 15 at NOVA’s Alexandria Campus Center for Design, Media and the Arts, 3301 Netherton Dr., Alexandria.
This year, NOVA will partner with the Working Students Support Network, United Community Ministries and the Capital Area Food Bank to package more than 30,000 items to distribute to those in need. The event will consist of four service projects, food inventory/sorting, baby formula packing, basic needs hygiene/products drive and laundry supply packing and distribution.
In its nine years of participating in the National Day of Service, NOVA has partnered with nonprofit organizations and encouraged students and the local community to volunteer each year. To date, more than 2,500 students, faculty, staff and local community members have participated in the National MLK Day of Service.
