Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after the government shutdown ended today:
“I am pleased that we were able to end this needless government shutdown quickly. This bill always had bipartisan support for our military, federal employees and children’s health, and should never have been held hostage by unrelated issues. Senate Democrats learned as Republicans have before that government shutdowns are bad policy. As the only member in the National Capital Region to vote against shutdowns in both Democrat and Republican Administrations, I hope my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both the House and Senate now recognize that government shutdowns are unacceptable.
“The bipartisan legislation to fund the government includes the Children’s Health Insurance Program for six years; delays the Medical Device Tax for two additional years; delays the Cadillac tax for two additional years; and suspends the Health Insurance Tax for 2019. This is a victory for children’s health and our taxpayers.”
