After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Virginia State University, Deshauna went on to complete her Masters in Computer Information Systems at the University of Maryland. Following her studies Deshauna returned to D.C. as an IT Analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 2011, she commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve and is currently a Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Rockville, Maryland.

As Miss USA, Deshauna specifically focused her efforts on PTSD treatment for soldiers returning from deployments and suicide prevention in the Armed Forces.
