It was a crazy (hair) week at Fitzgerald Elementary School, starting with “Crazy Hair Day” on Monday. The school’s Kindness Club led a service project to commemorate Kindness Week, April 9-13. Following a theme for each day, students and staff brought in toiletries to donate to the local homeless shelter.
“Students were excited,” said Korey Mena, the sponsor of the Kindness Club. “It was touching to see what they were doing to help someone else. Even though we made it a fun activity, our students were aware that they were giving very meaningful items. They were also having loads of fun dressing up,” Mena said.
Each day’s theme reflected the suggested product: On Monday, tubes and bottles of shampoo came in; on “Mix Matched Clothes Day,” detergent or soap was donated; on “Hat and Shades Day,” lots of sunscreen was donated; and on Thursday, “Pajama Day,” donations included toothpaste, floss, or body wash.
