Manassas Park resident Ja’Scotta Jefferson was crowned Miss Virginia State University at a pageant on Sunday, April 8 at the university. Four women competed for the title. Ja’Scotta will receive a scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic school year.
Miss Virginia State University is one of the highest student positions of the university. Ja’Scotta’s duties will consist of being the face and representative of the university. In addition, as the 90th Miss Virginia State university, Ja’Scotta said that she will “strive to lead those around me and make a positive impact. I am going to serve my student body but I am also going to be giving back to the Petersburg community around us; through education and literacy, community development, and family outreach and serving the elderly.
“One of my favorite quotes that I live by is ‘A queen is a leader. Good leaders are trailblazers, making a path for others to follow; but great leaders inspire their people to reach higher, dream bigger, and achieve greater,’ and that’s exactly what I intend to do! I am extremely ecstatic and most honored to represent my institution!”
