I-66 Outside the Beltway Project Lane Closures, Traffic Changes Week of Aug. 12

What’s Happening
Crews continue shifting travel lanes and setting up concrete barriers to create safe work zones along Interstate 66. Upcoming planned construction activities include:
  • Clearing of trees and brush in areas where work zones are in place
  • Lane shifts on I-66 near the Route 28 and Route 29 interchanges in Centreville
  • Start of temporary underground utility relocations along I-66 in the Jermantown Road area
  • Begin temporary widening on the inside median of I-66 between Route 123 and Blake Lane to support traffic shifts
Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 / GAINESVILLE
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
 
ROUTE 234 (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
 
ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE
I-66 West Between Stringfellow Road and Route 29 in Centreville
Monday, Aug. 13 – Tuesday, Aug. 14; Thursday, Aug. 16: 9:00 p. m. to 6:00 a. m.
Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Following this work, all lanes between Route 28 and Route 29 in Centreville will be shifted toward the inside median.
 
I-66 East from Route 29 in Centreville to Route 28
Sunday, Aug. 12: 8:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Wednesday, Aug. 15: 8:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Friday, Aug. 17 – Saturday, Aug. 18: 9:00 p. m. to 9:00 a. m.
Three left lanes closed between Compton Road and Route 28 to implement long-term lane shifts for construction.
ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY)
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
 
ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
Wednesday, Aug. 15: 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a. m.
Full ramp closure to move clearing machinery. Drivers on Route 50 will be detoured to the Route 608 (West Ox Road) interchange, where they will exit onto southbound West Ox Road, and then stay to the right for eastbound Route 50 to westbound I-66.
 
ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 123
Wednesday, Aug. 15: 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a. m.
Nighttime ramp closures to allow for barrier set up. Traffic will be detoured to the U.S. Route 50 interchange.
ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA
No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
 
I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY) / DUNN LORING
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South
Thursday, Aug. 16: 11:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Ramp closure to allow for barrier set up. Drivers will be detoured to the exit for southbound Nutley Street, then take the ramp for eastbound I-66 back toward I-495.
