Fitzgerald Elementary School’s new principal, Kim Gudinas, is looking to build community engagement and enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. Just recently, she hosted Popsicles on the Playground. The event gave parents and students a chance to meet their new principal. Gudinas started this annual event while at her previous school, Kerrydale Elementary.
“Being new to Fitzgerald Elementary, it’s very important for me to get to know the community, so they recognize my face from the first day of school,” said Gudinas. “One of my focuses is to really grow our community and increase family engagement. By holding Popsicles on the Playground, it gave an opportunity for new students to see the school, for parents to become familiar, and really to start the school year off with that community piece.”
The Fitzgerald Elementary PTSO purchased the popsicles and co-sponsored the event. Despite the heat, students, parents and the Fitzgerald Elementary staff enjoyed the event. Gudinas is hoping to continue strengthening community communication through more events like this.
“As the new principal at Fitzgerald, my goal is to know every student’s name and face. Popsicles on the Playground was a fun event and brought people to our school to build our community,” Gudinas said.
