Provided by IWALK for ACTS
Making changes within your community is daunting, overwhelming, and hard when you’re taking steps on your own. From providing a listening ear, to a place to turn when there’s no food on the table, to securing shelter when there is none, Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) helps families facing crisis one step at a time, every step of the way. On Saturday, Oct. 6, ACTS and Image Church would like you to join hundreds of others taking steps for change in Prince William County at the 8th Annual IWALK for ACTS at Stonebridge Potomac Town Center (14900 Potomac Town Place, Woodbridge).
The 5K walk/run starts at 8:00 a. m., with check-in at 7:00 a. m. Registration fees for the 5K are $20 for individuals and team members (4+ per team), or $50/family until Sept. 1. Prices then increase to $25 and $55, respectively. Race timing for runners offered by Amazing Race Timing. Proceeds benefit ACTS. To register for IWALK, visit iwalkforacts.com.
Each year, the event has grown in size, as has the amount of funds that have been raised. In 2011, the event raised a net profit of $9,400. I,n 2017 that number was just under $100,000. To date, IWALK for ACTS has raised over a quarter of a million dollars to help our neighbors in need. One hundred percent of the net proceeds raised by IWALK goes directly to ACTS.
“It’s fitting that ACTS’ only major fundraiser is called “IWALK,” because it’s one thing to talk about helping our neighbors in need; it is another to walk the walk. ACTS’ staff and volunteers feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned, and do so much more every day. For one Saturday every October, the entire community comes out to walk with us and share in our mission,” said Steve Liga, CEO/Executive Director at ACTS.
Following the 5K, the community can enjoy a free family festival. Attendees will enjoy food vendors, kids’ activities such as face painting, moon bounces, carnival games, crafts and much more.
ACTS fosters hope, provides relief, and promotes self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis. ACTS embraces a client-centered approach to helping our neighbors in the Greater Prince William County Area deal with crises, recover from trauma, and have their most basic human needs of food and shelter met with compassion.
