Bill Walsh Receives American Legion Post 1799 Legionnaire of the Year Award

Bill Walsh has received the “Legionnaire of the Year” award from the American Legion Post 1799 of Haymarket and Gainesville. Mr. Walsh has tirelessly served the post for many years and is currently Post Adjutant and Treasurer. In these roles he supports the day-to-day operations of the Post, manages fundraising activities, and supports Post programs with a variety of community organizations including Serve Our Willing Warriors in Haymarket, and the Battlefield High School Air Force Junior ROTC program. Mr. Walsh is a Veteran of the United States Navy and currently resides in Gainesville.

Chartered by Congress in 1919, the American Legion is an organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. American Legion Post 1799, named after the year of the chartering of the Town of Haymarket, was established in in 2005 to serve the veterans of our community and provide voluntary service to other community groups. Membership is open to currently active, as well as all honorably discharged former members of the U.S. military who have served during wartime.
