Occoquan Hosts Haunt the Town on Oct. 27

The Town of Occoquan and the Occoquan Merchants Guild will host Haunt the Town on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11:00 a. m. to 8:30 p. m. in downtown Historic Occoquan. This brand-new event features a full day of free activities for everyone, including a carved pumpkin contest, a costume parade, a magic show, a movie in the park, and more!

Haunt the Town Halloween Hunt Contest

The day’s events kick off at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the Haunt the Town Halloween Hunt Contest to win $150 gift certificate, sponsored by the Occoquan Merchants Guild. Visitors are invited to browse the town’s unique shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and cafes decorated with spooky life-sized Halloween figures and fall decorations. Collect an entry form at participating businesses flying orange and black balloons, hunt for the objects, collect signatures, and turn in the form for a chance to win! Contestants must be 18 years or older to win.

Town of Occoquan Carved Pumpkin Contest

The community is also invited to participate in the first Town of Occoquan Carved Pumpkin Contest by designing, creating, and submitting family-friendly carved pumpkins!  Pre-carved pumpkins may be delivered on Oct. 27 between 12:00 and 2:00 p. m. in River Mill Park, 458 Mill Street, with winners announced at 4:30 p. m. Judging categories are Child, Youth, Adult, and Artist.  Ribbons will be allocated for first, second, and third place. First prize will also win a $25 gift certificate to be spent at businesses located in the historic district!

Occoquan Costume Parade

Then at 4:00 p. m., costumed kids of all ages are welcome to join in the Occoquan Costume Parade! Contestants will line up at the VDOT parking lot at 121 Poplar Lane and, led by the Mayor of Occoquan, will parade through town, ending up at River Mill Park where costume judging will commence! Judging categories include Cutest, Scariest, Funniest, Most Original, and Family/Group. The best in each category wins First Prize ribbons and $25 gift certificates!

More Fun Activities

In addition to these fun activities, Patriot Scuba, 304 Mill Street, will provide a sand pit where kids can dig for treasures. Hauntingly Historic Occoquan Ghost Tours will host spooky tours from 11:00 a. m. to 5:00 p .m.

Finally, this fun-filled day will culminate with a free outdoor magic show at River Mill Park from 5:30 to 6:30 p. m., sponsored by the Occoquan Merchant Guild and featuring The Amazing Kevin! Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on to watch the show.  To top off this wonderful day, there will be a showing of The Goonies at 6:30 p. m.

Parking

All these events are free and open to the public.  Free on-street and public lot parking is available in town. In addition, off-site parking, with shuttle bus service sponsored by Patriot Scuba, is available from the Route 123 Commuter lot at the intersection of Old Bridge Road and Gordon Boulevard and drops off at 305 Mill Street. The shuttle service, provided by Earnie Porta’s Occoquan Tourism Company, will collect patrons from the lot on the half hour beginning at 11:00 a. m. through 4:00 p. m., with final pick-ups in town at 6:30 p. m. and 8:30 p. m. The shuttle is free, and donations to the non-profit Patriots for Disabled Divers are appreciated. Stay the day and check your strollers, lawn chairs and blankets at Patriot Scuba, 305 Mill Street, for the concert at River Mill Park.
