Kudos for Caring at Woodbridge Middle School

Provided by Prince William County Schools (PWCS)

Woodbridge Middle School (WMS) has started a new program that acknowledges the effect and care provided by staff and faculty to the students. Every month, they award a “Seminole of the Month” award to a deserving faculty member.

The WMS administration collaborates to select a staff member who has gone above and beyond their duties that month by supporting students, teachers, or the school as a whole.

Seminole of the Month

“As a former teacher and now administrator at WMS, I can attest that we have the best staff in PWCS. They go out of their way every day to make sure the students are cared for and learning in the way that best fits them. The Seminole of the Month is always difficult for administration to choose. We have such a large selection of people who deserve it,” Kristan Barnisky, administrative intern, stated.

The Seminole of the Month is recognized at the monthly faculty meeting. They are rewarded with a special parking spot next to Principal Owens; a month spent with the Seminole Statue, Ozzie; a certificate commemorating their selection as Seminole of the Month; a shout-out on the school’s Twitter Page; and an acknowledgement in the daily newsletter, the “Seminole Nation.”

Providing the students and parents in the school community with an opportunity to see the proud moments and accomplishments of the exceptional staff who care for the students each and every day is important to Angela Owens, WMS principal. Owens believes that recognition of her dedicated staff builds on the existing positive school spirit and keeps everyone looking for ways to do their part and raise up colleagues who exemplify these ideals.

Owens said, “Upon my return to WMS as principal, I wanted to bring something that would shout-out employees who consistently go outside of their duties, inspiring others every day and displaying a genuine interest in the betterment of WMS. I am so proud to be a part of such an awesome team of educators.”
