The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the Northern Virginia Technology Council will co-host the Shape of the Region Conference on March 7. The conference will run from 8:00  – 11:45 a. m. at Valo Park in Tysons Corner, 7950 Jones Branch Drive, McLean.  Registration is $65 and includes continental breakfast. Register here.

Despite the growth in our local economy, our region, like the entire country, is experiencing a growing gulf between the have and have nots, rising income inequality and a lack of economic mobility that has developed over the past 50 years. Inspired by US Partnership on Mobility from Poverty, the 2019 Shape of the Region Conference, “The Business Case for Economic Mobility,” will explore strategies that each sector of society can deploy to achieve a more expanded, more inclusive economy that benefits us all.

Eileen Ellsworth, President and CEO of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, will moderate keynote presentations by Nisha Patel, Managing Director, Narrative Change and National Initiatives at Robin Hood and Brent Orrell, Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Attendees will learn valuable lessons and insights during our fireside chat “Tech Talent Pipeline,” moderated by Bobbie Kilberg, President and CEO of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.  Participants include Ken Eisner, Senior Manager, Worldwide Education Programs at AWS; John Wood, Chairman, President and CEO of Telos; and Ray Khuo, SVP, Chief Human Capital Officer of Altamira.

Finally, a panel discussion moderated by Julie Coons, President and CEO of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, will focus on “Moving Ideas into Practice.” Panelists include Matt Erskine, Executive Advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton; Karla Bruce, Chief Equity Officer in Fairfax County; Jeff Grass, Chairman and CEO of Hungry; and David Remick, Executive Director of the Alexandria/Arlington Regional Workforce Council.

Robert Lazaro, Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, will close out the program.
