The Giant National Capital BBQ Battle in Washington, D.C. has been proclaimed “America’s Official National BBQ Championship” and has been entered into the Congressional Record. The Giant BBQ Battle event plans to use this recognition to further promote the cuisine and culture of American BBQ exemplifying passion, unity, cooperation, friendship, and respect. Whether it’s a backyard BBQ with dad, community celebration, church BBQ, company picnic or gathering of family and friends, the Giant National Capital BBQ Battle celebrates the diversity of BBQ and its purpose, bringing people together in the spirit of cooperation, friendship, food and fun.
The 27th Annual Giant BBQ Battle takes place on June 22 and 23 on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in downtown Washington, D.C. Join tens of thousands of BBQ and summer entertainment lovers and enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of summer. While attendees enjoy all the festivities, the event has raised millions of dollars in much-needed funds for area non-profits. This year’s BBQ Battle benefits the USO-Metro and the Capital Area Food Bank.
Food and More
This tasty event offers a two-day line-up of everything from delicious BBQ to 30 great bands and much more fun for all. There are plentiful and tempting free BBQ and grilled food samples in the Taste of Giant Sampling Pavilion, cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs and national cookbook authors like TV’s Pitmasters Myron Mixon and Tuffy Stone, interactive exhibits, sports and children’s activities and non-stop entertainment on three music stages. The event also hosts a series of national BBQ competitions all weekend with teams from across the country competing for big cash and prizes. Contests include the National BBQ Championship, the KCBS sanctioned Giant BBQ Championship, the National Pork Championship, the Perdue Sizzlin’ Chicken Contest, the Smithfield Rib Contest, the Turkey Smoke BBQ Contest, the True Aussie Lamb Contest and the Nation’s Best BBQ Sauce Contest. Teams from all branches of the military compete in the Military Chefs Contest.
Music
Attendees enjoy an eclectic mix of rock, reggae, jazz, blues and Go-Go on the Monster Energy Stage, the Pepsi-Lay’s Sound Stage and Famous Dave’s Music Stage. This year’s headliners include the Spin Doctors, Everlast, Aubrie Sellers, BYB, Bela Dona, Stone Driver, The Reagan Years, along with Trouble Funk, See-I with members of Thievery Corporation, Jah Works and many more.
