Every hour of every day families in our community face hunger, homelessness, and abuse. On Saturday, October 17, ACTS of Prince Willam, Image Church, and the Potomac Nationals are teaming up to help our most vulnerable neighbors in need. The 5th Annual IWALK for ACTS, which features a 5K fundraising walk and free family festival, will draw hundreds of people together to raise funds and awareness to help feed, shelter and protect countless individuals.

Registration for the walk is $20/individual, $15/team members (4+ members), or $50/family, with proceeds benefiting ACTS.  The event will be held at Pfitzner Stadium located at 7 County Complex Court in Woodbridge. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the walk will kick-off at 10 a.m. After the walk, participants and the community at large can check out the free family festival until 2 p.m.

The mission of ACTS of Prince William is to provide relief, foster hope and promote self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crises due to hunger, homelessness and interpersonal violence.

“My father lost his job and was underemployed for several years when I was growing up and the community helped us keep our family together,” said Steve Liga, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director at ACTS. “I knew I wanted to be of service. I realized people could make a difference for families. That’s what I wanted to do and what I get to do every day at ACTS. We can all be a part by signing up for IWALK for ACTS and coming out October 17.”

ACTS relies on community support to keep its doors open.  Each month, ACTS’ food pantry gives out an average of 45,000 pounds of food to families struggling to make ends meet, Liga said. In August, the number rose to 67,000 pounds of food.  “Food comes in the back door every day and out the front door to our clients.” Liga said. “If donations don’t come in every day, children go to bed hungry at night.” For more information about ACTS, visit www.actspwc.org.

ACTS and Image Church have a longstanding partnership of working together to help families in crises. “We get to come together, serve and raise funds for ACTS and hopefully have more than a thousand people join us at Pfitzner Stadium. On this day, the County comes to us and we look forward to serving them,” said Toby Ward, Elder over Missions at Image Church. Image Church meets at 13900 Church Hill Drive in Woodbridge on Sundays at 9:30 and 11 a.m. For more information, visit www.imagechurch.com.

At the free family festival following the walk, kids can play in the Potomac Nationals’ jumbo slide and moon bounces as well as Bubble Adventures’ bounce houses and giant bubbles for rolling and flipping. Lowes will be on site with Build and Grow craft projects. Other attractions include Dale City Fire Department trucks, raffle with prizes from local businesses, meet and greet with Uncle Slam – the Potomac Nationals mascot, and face painting.

Attendees will enjoy performances throughout the day from the Boyle School of Irish Dance, My BodyMovez Dance FuZionStudio, and Life Champ Martial Arts. Food will be available for purchase from food trucks Tailgater Toby, Pittsburgh Rick’s, Kool Zone Ice, and Cakes by Shelby.
