Provided by Prince William County
The BEST Lawns Program is designed to help property owners in Prince William County, the City of Manassas and the City of Manassas Park build Environmentally Sustainable Turf. It makes the most of valuable resources, time and money, while also protecting streams, lakes, ponds and the Chesapeake Bay.
When a property owner signs up for B.E.S.T. Lawns, a Master Gardener volunteer comes to their home, measures their total lawn area and collects a soil sample. After the soil is analyzed and tested, the property owner receives a B.E.S.T Lawns Care Handbook and a customized lime and fertilizer plan for their lawn.
Grass is a high maintenance plant and in order to grow grass well, property owners must understand its needs. Maintaining a healthy turf is the best defense against weeds, pests and diseases in a lawn. A fee of $40 covers one soil test and provides program materials. Additional soil tests are $15 each.
