Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community:
Perhaps now, more than ever, it is important to remember the powerful impact of kindness. Feb. 14 to 20 is Kindness Matters Week, and schools across our Division will be spreading kindness through a variety of learning activities. I am excited to join Patriot High School on Monday to participate in their kindness activities, including the Wall of Kindness. I look forward to seeing how our schools spread kindness throughout the week.
I would also like to highlight a fitting example of our Vision 2025-Launching Thriving Futures Strategic Plan in action. Recently Carlos Castro, president of Todos Supermarket visited students at Marumsco Hills Elementary School to discuss financial literacy. This is a wonderful example of the strong business/ community partnerships we value in PWCS and showcases our strategic commitment to Family and Community Engagement. Please be sure to watch the video spotlighting this visit.
February is also Career and Technology Education (CTE) month. CTE programs are critical in preparing our students for employment in fast-growing fields such as computer programming, engineering, health science, and skilled trades. Our Learning and Achievement for All strategic commitment includes the goal of having at least 1,000 CTE students graduate high school with a minimum of six CTE dual enrollment credits by 2025. We are also proud to have award-winning CTE programs, teachers, and students including these recent examples:
- Karis Hicks, Gar-Field High School, Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year
- Brentsville District High School, Turf Management Program, SportsTurf Managers Association award for Field of the Year
- Samantha Boadu, Potomac High School, selected to the national Naval Air Force scholarship program where she will complete flight training and earn the opportunity to obtain a pilot license
- Tim Vaughan, Marsteller Middle School, Virginia Technology and Engineering Education Association (VTEEA) Middle School Teacher of the Year
These are just a few examples of the exceptional teaching and learning that happens across PWCS every day. Thank you for your continued support, cooperation, and kindness as we work together to serve our students.
