Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,
As the month of January, and the first semester closes, I want to thank our educators, administrators, and support employees for their dedication and hard work ensuring instruction is delivered to our students despite a multitude of challenges. I am also grateful for our talented students who continue to demonstrate resiliency and persistence in their efforts.
As we enter the month of February, the School Division is beginning preparations for the 2022-23 school year, including the budget. During the School Board meeting on Feb. 2, I will have the opportunity to present the Superintendent’s FY 2023 Proposed Budget and Capital Improvements Program (CIP). We created this budget to support the Vision 2025 Launching Thriving Futures Strategic Plan, which will also be considered for final approval by the School Board on Feb. 2.
The proposed budget identifies investments aligned to PWCS’ strategic commitments that delineate the priorities and initiatives we will pursue to better serve our students, families, teachers, and support employees. Those commitments include:
- Learning and Achievement for All
- Positive Climate and Culture
- Family and Community Engagement
- Organizational Coherence
The proposed CIP focuses on the need for new facilities and additions to address growth, as well as multiple renovation projects to ensure our older schools are modernized to the best of our ability. The CIP that was provided to the School Board earlier this month may be reviewed online.
There are multiple opportunities for our stakeholders to hear more about the proposed budget and provide feedback. The School Board has scheduled a public meeting on Feb. 7, a public hearing on Feb. 16, and two work sessions. The School Board will consider approval of the budget on March 16, with the Board of County Supervisors considering the approval of the budget before May 1.
Please be reminded that Feb. 1 is the deadline for applications to many PWCS specialty programs. These programs focus on career exploration, subject area concentration, and college/university preparation. Prince William County Public Schools provides excellent opportunities for students in elementary, middle, and high school to explore a wide variety of special programs in our schools. If you need assistance with the process, several online specialty program application help sessions are available. Please visit the specialty program website for details.
Feb. 1 is also the start of PWCS’ recognition of Black History Month. Be sure to look for features from the Division and our schools throughout February, as PWCS recognizes this annual celebration of achievements and heritage of African Americans.
I appreciate your engagement, support, and cooperation as we work together to deliver on our collective vision that every student will graduate on time with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to create a thriving future for themselves and their community.
Sincerely,

LaTanya D. McDade, Ed.D. Superintendent Prince William County Public Schoo
