Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,
Thank you all for your cooperation, support, and patience as we continue to adjust to the impacts of the pandemic. I especially want to acknowledge our employees for their dedication to supporting schools and classrooms Division-wide throughout this school year. There is no doubt that this school year has brought about extraordinary challenges and our staff have continuously demonstrated their commitment to our students and families.
As part of our effort to continuously address staffing shortages and provide further support to our teachers and students, effective Jan. 18, PWCS will increase the hourly daily-substitute rate, the PALS tutor rate, and the afterschool temporary tutor rate, from $16.81 to $17.81. Additionally, effective Jan. 18 through June 15, 2022:
- Teachers who substitute during their planning period for at least 30 consecutive minutes (not duty time) will be paid the non-instructional rate of $30.45 per hour to compensate them for the missed planning time.
- Hourly paid (classified) staff who serve as a substitute teacher for at least 30 consecutive minutes shall earn an additional $6.00 each hour (in addition to the normal hourly rate) while performing substitute teacher duties.
- Please review the frequently asked questions for additional information on these supports.
As we look to the future, at this week’s School Board meeting, I shared our vision for Prince William County Public Schools – Vision 2025 Launching Thriving Futures. Our vision is for every student to graduate on time with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to create a thriving future for themselves and their communities. The strategic plan is grounded in our core values and driven by the tenets of our Profile of a Graduate that defines the qualities we expect in every graduate for them to prosper beyond PWCS.
I encourage you to learn more about our draft strategic plan by watching the Board presentation or by reviewing the draft document. More than 4,000 stakeholders have been engaged in the development of this plan to date. This includes parents, students, teachers, administrators, and business and community leaders. If you have not already done so, we invite you to provide your feedback on the plan via our website. Thank you for your support, engagement, and partnership to realize the collective vision and goals for Prince William County Public Schools.
This Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King’s legacy and leadership in the civil rights movement is a testament to how a life of service can have positive and lasting impacts on future generations. I encourage you to commemorate his legacy and celebrate his life by engaging in a community service activity this holiday. I also welcome you to view the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Oratorical Competition and Program, which will be presented at 11L00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022.
Have a safe and restful holiday weekend.
