Provided by ACTS (Action In the Community Through Services) and IKEA
ACTS (Action In the Community Through Services) in Dumfries, VA will be awarded a product donation of 175 “Happy Home” essential kits, 40 Back-to-School backpacks filled with school supplies, 8 MALM dressers, 5 SVARTA Bunk beds, and 3 BEDDINGE sofa beds from the IKEA Woodbridge store on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 3:00pm at 3900 ACTS Lane, Dumfries, VA 22026. This donation will enable families throughout Prince William County to have the essentials they need to feel comfortable in their new home.
Steven Liga, ACTS’ new CEO, stated, “ACTS is so grateful for being nominated and winning this award. The fact that IKEA supports organizations such as ours and the community showed its support by voting for us is truly humbling.” Lula Kelly, Sustainable Housing Case Manager, reiterated, “IKEA has been a great community partner. Our clients have been able to enjoy the comforts of home through the generous donations of quilts, pillows, silverware, and other home furnishings that IKEA has provided over the years. This year they also donated a van so we could transport our clients to appointments, which provided such a relief for our volunteers and clients.”
IKEA wants to play a part in creating a better life for the many people, as well as communities touched by IKEA business. While IKEA works on a global level to improve the lives of people in developing countries, IKEA also wants to be a good neighbor in its local communities. The IKEA Life Improvement Co-worker challenge is one way to make a difference closer to home.
How the IKEA Life Improvement Challenge Works:
Each year, IKEA receives many inspiring proposals from IKEA co-workers as candidates for the campaign. Then the IKEA steering committee – at each store – selects up to three organizations for co-workers and customers to vote online (this year’s voting period was February 16 – March 2). The charitable organization, from each store market, with the highest number of online votes becomes the winner, and the 2nd and 3rd place winners receive IKEA gift cards.
IKEA US started the IKEA Life Improvement Challenge in 2011, and since then over 120 local charities have received over $1 million in IKEA products, design expertise, and manpower.
