The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce will co-host the Shape of the Region conference on Feb. 15, 2018 from 8:00 – 11:45 a. m. at Valo Park in Tysons Corner, 7950 Jones Branch Drive, McLean. Registration is $65 and includes continental breakfast.
This event will explore two big issues facing the Northern Virginia region’s future as illuminated by data from the Community Foundation’s Opportunity Index, each with a panel discussion. Panelists will evaluate the region’s opportunity and inequality, and tapping the workforce assets in our own backyard.
The Opportunity Index is an online dashboard with 26 key indicators, disaggregated by each of the jurisdictions the Community Foundation serves and by demographic data, to help give us and our community a better understanding of the real, as opposed to perceived, needs of the region. The Opportunity Index will launch at the Shape of the Region conference, and will be available on cfnova.org following the event.
Shape of the Region keynote speakers include Michael Cassidy, President & CEO, Commonwealth Institute, and Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow of Economic Studies and Co-Director of the Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution.
The opportunity and inequality panel will be moderated by Erin Hogan, Philanthropic Market Executive – Southeast, U.S. Trust. Panelists will include Tamara Copeland, President, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers; David Hunn, President & CEO, SkillSource Group, Inc.; and Dr. Bruce McDade, Superintendent, Manassas Park Public Schools.
The panel discussing tapping the workforce assets in our own backyard will be moderated by Scott Ralls, President, Northern Virginia Community College. Panelists will include Ken Eisner, Senior Manager, Worldwide Education Programs and Global Lead, Amazon Web Services; Lovey Hammel, President, Employment Enterprises, Inc.; Jacqueline M. Welsh, Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, Freddie Mac.
