Anne Ridgway led the theatre arts programming at the ARTfactory for more than 30 years and announced her well-deserved retirement on June 15, 2021. Anne developed the programming from a small, one-show theatre experience into the robust theatre programming the ARTfactory has today. The ARTfactory features dramatic arts and technical theatre training classes and workshops as well as two award winning theatre companies: Pied Piper Theatre for students and Rooftop Productions for community actors. Her contribution to the ARTfactory has made the community a better place to live and work.
Anne’s successor is Kimberly Kemp, the new Director of Theatre Arts. Mrs. Kemp is an award-winning educator, director and actress from Fredericksburg.  She has been a part of the surrounding DMV theatre community for many years. Kimberly is the founder and former Executive Director of Stage Door Productions, Inc. where she worked for 17 years in addition to her day job as a theatre educator at Massaponax High School.  She graduated from Jacksonville State University with a theatre education degree and completed her Masters in Arts Management at George Mason University in 2014.
As a theatre arts educator in Spotsylvania County, Kimberly’s students have been recognized locally, regionally and nationally in acting, stand up, film, television, directing, public speaking and the technical theatre arts. Many of her students have gone on to work professionally in the arts.  Kimberly has witnessed firsthand how the power of theatre inspires, influences and educates. She is excited to continue to bridge barriers in the arts at the ARTfactory.
Beverly Hess, ARTfactory Executive Director, is thrilled to welcome Kimberly to the staff: “I know she will do a wonderful job because she shares a passion for our vision—a community enriched through creative arts.”
The ARTfactory theatre programming returns to live theatre this summer with an outdoor performance of Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. at Windy Knoll Farm on Aug. 14, followed by Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. on Oct. 16 and 17 at Metz Middle School in Manassas. Rooftop Productions will return to the stage Oct. 22 to 31 with Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Hylton Performing Arts Center.
