The ARTfactory’s Rooftop Productions is presenting its Second Annual 10 by 10 New Play Festival Aug. 24 through 26 at the ARTfactory. The festival features ten original plays from the ten-minute play genre, meaning the plays must be limited to ten pages or are ten minutes in length.Well received during its inaugural year in 2022, the festival began as a way to showcase original works and has received entries from as far away as China and Australia. This year, the over 130 entries included one written by a local playwright, selected by the readers’ panel for performance. This year’s festival also includes a high school writer’s category; the winning play came from New York.

Festival director and former high school theatre teacher Deb Hansen is thrilled to be a part of the 10 by 10 for the second year in a row, especially considering the ARTfactory’s commitment to arts in the community, “ARTfactory has so many wonderful opportunities and classes available, including classes offered in playwriting meant to equip aspiring writers of all ages.” She is especially excited about the addition of the high school playwriting category this year.Audiences will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite play after watching the performances which will be held Aug. 24 to 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kellar Family Theatre at the ARTfactory.
