BEACON for English Language and Literacy held a record-breaking enrollment for its spring 2022 class session, which runs March 21 through June 9, 2022. BEACON staff saw a 30.5% increase in student enrollment from its winter 2021 class session. BEACON is celebrating 30 years of empowering adult learners in our community and fundraises year-round to support its mission. No student is turned away for the inability to pay!

BEACON’s spring session saw an enrollment of 244 students in their 12 online classes and 15 in-person classes held at Manassas Presbyterian Church, Bethel Lutheran Church, and Manassas Park Community Center. BEACON Program Manager Jennifer Katac said, “We have seen an increase in demand for classes as more immigrants settle into the Prince William and surrounding areas. Those who settle here are eager to learn English, look for jobs, and assimilate into their new communities.”

You can help BEACON by walking, running, or biking to support adult literacy in our community during BEACON for English Language and Literacy’s 2nd Annual Virtual Walkathon from April 10 to 30, 2022. The live event will take place on April 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the St. Benedict Monastery grounds, 9535 Linton Hall Road, Bristow. The event will feature family fun activities, food trucks, raffle, face painting and other family friendly activities. For more details, please visit beaconliteracy.org/walkathon.
