On Saturday April 23, 2022, Jack and Jill of America Inc., the Prince William County Chapter, Master Gardeners of Prince William (MGPW), the Virginia Cooperative Extension Prince William Unit of Environmental Natural Resources and Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) will partner to beautify the memorial garden at the historic Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Gainesville. In August 2012, the Mount Pleasant Baptist church community suffered the loss of their historic place of worship as the church building caught fire and was subsequently destroyed. Undaunted by such a loss, the congregation and community have banded together and continue to raise support for rebuilding the church. “I am incredibly honored to lend our support in every way we can for this effort,” says Keep Prince William Beautiful Executive Director Rico Fleshman. “Our role is not just to advocate for environmental stewardship in our communities but also to play a vital part in beautifying our important spaces.” KPWB will provide tools and support to the 30 to 50 volunteers expected to participate at the event, who will plant a variety of native plants to the memorial garden.
